Kenny Myatt is quite known for being controversial, and when he was a guest on the OLINA Sports Network's ARCSOA Today television show, he certainly did not disappoint. Myatt was asked about what track on the schedule he would most like to see removed from the schedule. His response, or one could say monologue was quite entertaining.
"I think the majority of the paddock will agree on the same track, however we all know it won't be removed from the schedule. That track is the OK Coral. First let me say they did an awesome job with the finale last season, on short notice. But that track is the only track that legitimately scared me going into each race. I feel so much safer on Daytona or Talladega, where I am going quite a bit faster than on that track.
I have been in a few wrecks in my career. I took a really bad one in Suzuka back in Season 3. However the worst one I was ever in was a practice crash at the OK Coral. For some reason, almost every wreck on that track is a viscous one. After getting in a wreck, I have heard of drivers staying in bed until Tuesday Morning because they ache so bad after a hit here. I can not recall a light hit I have ever taken on that track.
I was once driving along, and someone got spun to the inside, where the car hit the inside wall and bounced back up into traffic in turn 3. A car hit that other car, and the front two wheels got maybe a foot off the ground because of how hard the hit was. I remember cringing while driving.
It is not like the wrecks here cause serious injury, because in reality they don't. But they are certainly the most painful out of any track on the schedule.
One of the biggest shocks to the rookies is when all of the veterans are sitting around with white faces before the race in Oklahoma. The rookies seem to think it is a Mile long track that will race like the Arkansas track, or maybe a big Quincy, but in reality it races like Daytona. A much smaller and scarier version of Daytona.
I was dead serious about how scared the drivers are before a race here, I remember talking with a few of them last season and everyone had the same mindset, survive."
